Katankin is the solo moniker of singer-songwriter, instrumentalist, and producer Helen Catanchin. Formally trained as a jazz singer, Katankin was born from Helen’s desire to return to her singer-songwriter roots, and integrate more diverse musical and production elements into her works. Katankin is the phonetic spelling of her Russian surname (allowing its correct pronunciation for the first time in the singer’s life), and further symbolises this return to one’s roots, to one’s true self.

This beacon of Canadian wonderment, this shimmering Aurora Borealis, has been described as the unwanted lovechild of Tempest Storm and Lucille Ball. She’s Australia’s classiest piece of bacon on stage, but off stage she smashes tinnies like a champ. Chief hobbies include: smothering herself in poutine, drinking maple syrup from a moose skull and playing hockey with her beaver (wink wink). Her favourite food? Well that’s pretty obvious. She is the one, the only… Miss Maple Rose.
