Maple Rose
WORKSHOP 1
Classic with Character
(Open Level)

DESCRIPTION
“Classic burlesque” has had a bad rep of being labelled boring, but it’s far from it! Maple Rose, voted most Classic at the Busties in 2018, will guide you into exploring characterisation within the traditional burlesque style to create your own unique striptease character. We will play around with clowning, narrative, dramaturgy, musicality and costuming within the realm of traditional burlesque dance styles after we will dive into the history books to find examples of iconic burlesque stars and explore how their onstage personas skyrocketed their careers.

WHAT TO WEAR/BRING
Bring your dance heels, comfy clothes you can move in, a notebook and pen. This workshop will comprise of theory and movement.

LEVEL OF EXPERIENCE
From beginners to advanced students, this workshop is open to anyone keen to learn more skills in the theatrics of burlesque.

WORKSHOP 3
Floorwork Like a Lady
(Open Level)

DESCRIPTION
Did you ever see Tempest Storm plonk her bum on the floor? Absolutely not! In this 1.5h dance intensive workshop, we’re going to learn how to get down and dirty the lady-like way. Explore the floor work stylings of the queens from the glory days! With slides, rolls, kicks and bends we’ll get that desired drop without the need to be uber flexible or overtly erotic. Suitable to ANYONE keen to learn floor tricks from the past. Options for any level experience will be given. Just bring a pair of low dance heels (socks are also fine), wear long leggings for slippage, and a pair of small knee pads will help keep your knees bruise free.

ABOUT MAPLE ROSE
Miss Maple Rose has been described as the unwanted lovechild of Tempest Storm and Lucille Ball. Combining her professional expertise in costume and set design with her foundation in classical dance, Maple guides many a budding performance artist in the art of tease! She’s here to prove that “classic burlesque” doesn’t have to be boring. Either with feather fans or tapping toes, Maple will take you on a deep dive into burlesque history. Winner of the the 1st Runner Up crown at Miss Burlesque Australia 2018, voted number 21 in the 21st Century Burlesque Magazine’s Top 50 Most Influential Artists of 2021, and voted Best Solo Artist and Most Classic at the Australian Burlesque Industry Awards, The Busties, in 2018 – Maple has shown Australia she’s one tornado with her feather fans and couture costumes!
