Instructor: Maple Rose (Melbourne)

Name of Class: Classic With Character

Class Description: Learn the tricks of putting that punch in your bumps, that pepper in your grind, and that zest in your striptease.

“Classic burlesque” has had a bad rep of being labelled boring, but it’s far from it! Maple Rose, voted most Classic at the Busties in 2018, will guide you into exploring characterisation within the traditional burlesque style to create your own unique striptease character. From beginners to advanced students, this workshop is open to anyone keen to learn more skills in the theatrics of burlesque. We will play around with clowning, narrative, dramaturgy and costuming within the realm of traditional burlesque dance styles after we will dive into the history books to find examples of iconic burlesque stars and explore how their onstage personas skyrocketed their careers.

What to bring/wear: Bring your dancing shoes, comfy clothes you can move in, a notebook and pen. And if you feel up for it, bring any small costume piece you feel truly embodies your burlesque character. This workshop will comprise of theory and movement.

Maple Rose: 12:15pm to 1:15pm

Instructor: Maple Rose (Melbourne)

Name of Class: "Charleston 101"

Class Description: We’ve made it to 2020, so let’s celebrate in style!

The Roaring Twenties were the bee’s needs, when flappers glugged down giggle water, and Jazz clubs were the cat’s pyjamas. Step back into the prohibition era with Maple Rose and unleash your inner flapper. Maple has been teaching the Charleston at Maison Burlesque for over 2 years, and loves watching that “ah-ha!” moment spark in her student’s eyes. This high energy workshop will rid you of 2 left feet as we learn the basic dance steps of the famous Charleston within a short routine.

What to bring/wear: Wear dance clothes, flat dance shoes/sneakers, a water bottle and possibly a towel for those sweaty foreheads.

Level: This workshop is suitable for all genders and experience levels keen to raise their heartbeat.
